Would you kill for the org?.......YES I WOULD!
by olongapo joe inso, a few years ago my jw parents, my non jw sister and her husband, and myself were discussing religion and jw beliefs.
my parents of course defending the jw's, the rest of us, against jw's ( it may not have been specifically against jw's, maybe just religion in general) anyway, things are getting a little heated, and i finally ask my pops, if the watchtower bible and tract society told you to go out and start killing muslims, would you do it?
yes i would, was his reply, to which i say, then your not any different than the radical muslims killing in the name of religion.

That ended the discussion, so when you were a hardcore JW would you have killed for them? -

Booze Boy, The Early Years
by olongapo joe insomeone commented on an old post, "jw's attract a lot of misfits and alcoholics" yep, fits my family to a t. booze was at every family reunion, party, picnic, you name it, if my family was gonna be there, there was gonna be lots of booze.
my pops was cheap (he dropped out of school in the 9th grade, so only worked low paying jobs) so to save money on beer, he and my uncle decide to make some homebrew (this is in the early 70's, before all the beer brewing kits you can get now).
they got a recipe from some old codger, dug up an old 30 gallon crock from god only knows where, and commences to buying cans of malt, bags of sugar, cases of empty bottles, a hand operated capping machine the whole nine yards, oh, it was a big operation, yep, were gonna save a bundle on beer!.

So the first batch gets mixed, and sits in the basement a couple of weeks. The anticipation is building, cheap tasty homebrew, man is this gonna be great! So the big day comes, gonna taste the nectar of the gods, well, it wasn't quite nectar of the gods, more like bathwater of the gods! This stuff was murky, bitter tasting crap! Did we throw it out you ask? Hell no, bottled every drop of it, must have taken two months to choke down all that swill. Well that was the end of the homebrewing, back to drinking that stuff in the white can that just says BEER

So said my pops one morning. We were visiting my sister in eastern Tennessee and the night before after everyone else went to bed pops was watching tv when all of a sudden and completely on it's own the tv changed to the tonight show, HOLY SMOKES!! must be demons cause pops didn't change it! So a little later after pops turns off the tv to read he hear's someone go psssssttt, WHAT THE HECK EVERYONE IS IN BED, 30 minutes later again pssssttt, he couldn't take it anymore so he prayed to Jehovah and went to bed.
The next morning he's telling us about it, my sister and brother in law look at each other and while trying to suppress laughter inform him my BIL had preprogrammed the tv for the tonight show as he knew pops liked to watch it. As for the demons who were pssssttting at him was nothing more than an automatic air freshener.
Sad that when something happened he couldn't explain, first thought, its the demons.
Not to let my sister off the hook, a few days later we are sitting in the backyard a ways from the house, she says, why are the wind chimes on the porch ringing? They was absolutely no wind, yet the chimes are lightly ringing, so she's like what the hell, now she has not set foot in a kingdom hall or any other church for 35 years but first thing comes to her mind is DEMONS, my BIL and I are teasing her and laughing, and she getting mad cause were laughing at her. Finally I said I'll check it out, as I near the house I hear the washing machine is in spin cycle and creating enough vibration to move the wind chimes. Again sad that the JW instilled fear of demons from our child hood can effect my middle age sister who has had nothing to do with JW"s for the past 35 yrs.

Careful, Does the Navy give you any medical care?
Yes, we can use tri care standard, although not many Doctors accept it, and there is a V.A. clinic in Manila, but they usually only treat service connected conditions.
Careful, did they ever fix shit river?
No, pretty much the same as always, they do dredge it occasionally for flood control. Po city and Subic has regular garbage trucks for weekly trash pick up, where I live there is just a kid on a bike with a cart who takes our garbage for 20 peso a week, that's about 40 cents last I checked 47 peso to the dollar.
Steve2, do the JW's make themselves known to you?
yes, they seem to be doing well here there are 3 halls that I know of within 15 miles of my house, seen them in fs 3 or 4 times in the last few years, actually see the Mormons more, but they are easily identifiable by the white shirt and tie.
Thanks for all the welcomes

I notice my answers to Careful kind of run together and don't make a lot of sense if you don't go back and read his questions, I will try to do better next time. -

Heaven, my still in family all still talk/associate with me, the only family I would class as an Uber Dub would be my sister in law, even she talks to me, but I get the feeling she would rather be doing anything else (like getting her teeth pulled ) than chatting with me. My brother, last I heard was a MS, but I think he just does the JW thing for his wife and my parents, he hangs out with a worldly guy from work, under the guise of cutting firewood and doing odd jobs (construction).
Careful, my dad actually cried when I got on the bus for bootcamp, funny thing is, he did Army bootcamp in the early 60's and when I left, not one word of advice, I love my parents, but they did not prepare me for life on my own, guess they figured the end was near. I was an Aircraft Electrician retired an E-6, thanks mostly to being raised NOT to be competetive thanks again JW's! It's not as cheap as it used to be, I get by ok on $1500 a month, just had a son with my girlfriend, we would get married but I have to divorce my first wife who I believe is still married to her first Filipino husband (that's a story for another time). Jeepney's are still abundant and still belching out the black diesel exhaust. I was a virgin until I met a Westpac Widow at the E club, she used to be a bar girl at the Brown Fox in Olongapo (sadly the Brown Fox is closed and now a shopping mall). I have picked up some Tagalog but no where near conversational, vast majority of locals speak at least some English.
I read on another site that Anthony Morris was an Army Medic, I do not know if that is accurate or not.
JWfacts, I took my daughter to Ocean Adventure in 2006 and she got the picture with the dolphin. Any questions about retiring here, I would be happy to give you my experiences/advice.

A little wine for the stomaches sake.
by olongapo joe inone of my pop's favorite bible quotes.
as a youngster as soon as i could open the refrigerator, the old man would say "bryan get me a beer", and i was rewarded a drink or two from the can, 50 years later, i am an alcoholic, good news is i realize i am an alcoholic and am working on it.
actually hope to replace the booze with weed, as i can get violent with booze, but just chill with weed.

Careful
Things have slowed down in Subic and Po city a lot since the base left, think a few dozen clubs now, versus the hundreds of clubs then. Angeles City still has some clubs with over a hundred girls working there. I don't go to girly bars anymore, just hangout with old retirees drinking San Miguels and flirting with the waitresses. Beer at the girly bars will run almost $2, I normally hang out at the cheap Charlie bars for $1 beers.
Ohio was ok to grow up in, but I wouldn't want to die there!
